Sorry for the bad photo quality, yet here is a photo of Saturday's catch. I spent $22.08 on groceries that had shelf-price value of $166.54 (for a savings of almost 87%). You'll see 18 various 4-packs of yogurt and 8 boxes of gogurt (those went straight into the freezer), 8 bags of stir-fry veggies, 4 CFL light bulbs, 4 dozen eggs, 4 oreo cookie packs, 2 gallons of milk and 12 boxes of hamburger helper. Side note: I don't usually add hamburger, and for the better-than-free price, it still makes a good meal starter.
So, this week, needless to say, yogurt is in SEASON. The kids are learning to eat "in season" and I am getting better at planning meals based on the current sales cycle. We'll be enjoying yogurt in lunches for a few weeks, and then the frozen gogurts will come out for a turn. Hard-boiled eggs and quiche are in season, too, and the good news is that when the eggs and yogurt run out, we don't have to wait a year before the next harvest like the cycles on all the truly in-season locally grown produce. I know these products will pop up again in six to eight weeks and and we'll all take the Activia challenge again.
