Here's a new family tradition that I hope to keep coming: Wafflefest! Last year, a neighbor family hosted Wafflefest and fed all the kids from our bus stop lunch (On the last day of school, the kids *usually* go for only 1/2 day). However, that family has moved on to middle school.
This year, the kids had to go for a few extra days, including making the final 1/2 day into a full day, to make up for all the snow cancellations. So WE decided to host wafflefest, and make it a late-afternoon-snack instead of lunch.
The idea is simple: I make a million waffles, everyone brings a topping, and the kids ingest lots of sugar.
I made a 6x batch of waffles and we had: cherry syrup, blueberry syrup, maple syrup, chocolate syrup, butter, chocolate chips, peanut-butter chips, apple sauce, raspberries, and whipped cream to choose from. Everyone loved the whipped cream the most. Xander loved filling each square with a different color of syrup.
It turned out to be lots of fun, with friends staying to play in the yard until 6:30. I realized I need to come up with more excuses for easy parties like this! (Party tip number 17: Remove the hose from the spigot before guests arrive, so no one will even be tempted to turn it on)
