I was frantically trying to tidy up that evil closet that holds shoes, swim towels, and lunchboxes (really- why is it so hard for those items to get along? Why is nothing tidy no matter how many projects I do?) and realized I needed to get the move on and get a cake in the oven for Tiny's birthday. I was cruising along adding milk and flour to the mixer, when my measuring cup (which has no handle) slipped and fell in!
I frantically turned the dial down (left) to save my mixer from certain death, but overshot! You know...beyond "off" is the "max pulse" setting. So, the mixer flew into overdrive and cake batter splashed up and spattered all over the kitchen! This picture doesn't do justice...you can't see batter coating the sugar canister, or running down the cake-colored-cupboards, or drizzled on the items in the cupboard.
I finally recovered and retrieved the cup (unharmed!), and instead of bursting into tears decided to take a photo and write a blog post. Why is it that unexpected moments of annoyingness and terror can be turned into humor and wittiness by the act of sharing with the whole internet world? Misery loves company, and company can prevent me from crying over spilled cake. So here we are!
The silver lining today is that I decided to reward myself with a brand-new set of non-broken measuring cups, with handles intact. And since I'm so glad I didn't chop my fingers off, either, I'm going to also buy a new color of nail polish! The other silver lining is...it's my baby's birthday!
