Yes, folks. Up until recently, I myself didn't know my natural curls were useful for anything. I followed my regular routine of carrying a snapshot of my favorite hair (taken from the head of a magazine star) to the chop shop, and I'd ask the girl to "please make me look like this!"
Well, apparently, ALL of the Hollywood starlets are using hot-irons to get straight hair. After my haircut, the cosmetologist would spend 15 minutes getting it straight and adding the necessary products to create my movie-hair vision. It was always great, but realistically...I only spend 2.5 minutes/day on hair, so it never looked like that again. I lived in the world of bad hair every day except beauty shop day.
So, up until October or so, none of the stylists had ever cracked up laughing or anything when I made my suggestions. But then I met Janice. I said, "this hairdo looks really nice," and she said, "yes, but you have curly hair. Why not cut it so you can wear the curls?"
Well, that was a novel idea so I went with it! Thank you Janice! Since then I've been letting my hair do it's thing and for the first time in my life thinking, "I'm really glad I have this hair!"
Well, I learned that they make products that you can put on your hair so it curls nicely. How long has that been going on!? Apparently I went to the wrong university (and high school) or was nerdy too long, because I missed all the late-night beauty shop parties where SOMEONE was supposed to explain this to me. Well, maybe I'll just host one of my own this weekend and invite all the 13 year-olds I know.
So, My tip to people who think they might have curls: don't brush your hair when you get out of the shower. Brushing = frizz. And my request to the rest of the world: Show me a Hollywood starlet with naturally curly hair, please.
