Morbid, yet funny

It seems that whenever we're getting into the car, the kids are yapping about what's to come. "Can we go to our friend's house!? Can we have pizza for dinner? Hey Mom!, listen to this riddle...!"

So, I'm usually eager to get seat belts fastened so the car can get moving, but find it hard to get a word in edgewise. Once Zoe was going on, "Mom, are we going to preschool? Is today letter J day? Do you know where my mittens are?"

And I responded, "Zoe! Guess who NEVER gets to go to preschool?.... (pregnant pause)...DEAD people! So put your seat belt on so we can get there safely already."

Now the kids think it's hilarious and nearly every time we get in the car, I take whatever jibber jabber they are talking about and make it into a crazy question...."Guess who NEVER gets to play with legos? Guess who NEVER gets to choose something at the grocery store? Guess who NEVER gets to sit in the front seat?"

And they all yell back, "DEAD PEOPLE!" And then they put on their seat belts without any nagging.
