There are usually so many possible sounds, that I'm not sure which one she's referring to. Do you mean the sound of the clock ticking? The sound of the fan? The distant lawn mower? The bird chirping outside? The boys talking in the basement? The gentle slurping of my dishwater?
Once we were out front and I answered, "It sounds like there's a dog barking somewhere." Zoe's ears were so good, in fact, that she answered, mystically, "Yes, it's a black dog barking."
She's also upset by the loud noise of the vacuum and will cover her ears, as well as the loud noise of public toilets flushing (which do sound like a rocket launch). When she's done in a public toilet, she'll come out, plugging her ears and say, "You go flush it...I'll stay out here !"
Oddly, when we're listening to a great song in the car, she'll still request that I blast it at top volume.
